Moving Checklist
Don't let the moving process be chaotic. Having a checklist will relieve the stress and lighten the load.
- Begin to move clutter from the basement, attic, garage, and other storage areas
- If you are moving yourself, obtain packing materials and begin packing and stacking those items you haven't used in a while or won't be needing before you move
- If you are going to use a mover, choose one early and get estimates
- Arrange to move children's school records if applicable
- Know your new town…..subscribe to the local newspaper
- Obtain referrals from your doctors to your new ones and have them prepare your records
- Perishable items need to be used if they cannot be moved
- Clean out those closets and send those items you won't be taking with you to your local charitable organizations
- Have a yard sale
- Return any borrowed items you may have
- Return books to the library or donate those you have read. Many times, this is tax deductible
- If you have loaned out items, be sure and get them returned to you
- Notify your creditors of your new address, phone number, etc.
- Remember to cancel your insurances, utilities, etc. on moving day
- Be sure you have enough medications on hand until you can transfer your
- present prescriptions
- Arrange for special transportation for your pets and plants if necessary
- Arrange to take “special” items with you that you especially don't want to risk them being broken during the move.
- Transfer your bank accounts and close your safe deposit box
- Pay any bills you may have in your present location
- Pack a box of items that will be needed first at the new house and mark the box to be packed on the truck last
- Defrost your refrigerator and freezer if applicable
Have a great move!!!
